My name is Jessica Espinoza Gonzalez I am 16 years old. I am currently a junior attending Lindsay Senior High School. I was born and raised in Lindsay, Ca. I am the oldest of four. I have three brothers; we live with both of our parents. My parents were both born and raised in México. They were born in a place called Huatajo, Michoacán. My dad and mom came to the U.S when they were about 14 years old. I could imagine how hard it was for them to leave all their friends and family, they came here all alone. The second day they were here they had to start working because they wanted to help out their family in México. My goals are to graduate high school and go off to a university. I would like to become an elementary teacher. I love helping out kids and teaching them new things. Another career I would love to do is to study to become a social worker I love helping people with their problems. I also like the fealing I get when I help someone in need. I would like to become a social worker that works with children, family and schools.
My goals aren’t only mine; they are also my parent’s goals. I see how much they have gone through to get me to where I am. Both of my parents say they wish they had the chance to go to school, here or in México but it was too hard for their parents. I see my dad is the one who has wished to go to school more, his told me with tears in his eyes, “mija todo lo que hago es para ustedes para que ustedes tenga una mejor vida que la mia, no los quiero ver sufrir nunca.” My parents have worked I the field since they got here sometimes having to wake up at 3 in the morning. I’m doing this for me, but also for them so they know I am grateful for the things they have done for me. They are my main motivation to stay in school and achieve al my goals.
